Love of Mathematics
Love of Maths A Short Reflection from a Teacher Who Never Fell Out of Love with Numbers I’ve been called many things over the years—teacher, mentor, math nerd (lovingly, I hope). But if there’s one label I’ve always carried with quiet pride, it’s this: “Good at maths.” Not because I could solve equations faster than others, or because I always had the right answer though that did help but because I genuinely loved it. Maths always made sense to me. When the world felt chaotic, numbers felt calm. When words got complicated, logic stayed clear. Where some saw formulas, I saw patterns. Where others feared problems, I saw puzzles. Maths Through My Students As a teacher, I’ve taught many students. Some were brilliant, some struggled, and some simply believed they weren’t “math people.” But across every group, I saw a common thread: Once someone felt that spark solving a tricky question, recognising a pattern, finally “getting it”something shifted. They smiled. They lit up. And that’s when I knew: they were falling in love with maths too. Why I Still Love It Even now, after all these years, maths still surprises me. A clever proof, a new method, a curious twist in logic it keeps me engaged, grounded, and inspired. I love that it has both structure and creativity. I love that it rewards both discipline and imagination. I love that it teaches us how to think clearly and that’s a gift far beyond the classroom. 🧡 To Those Who Struggle With Maths… I get it. Not everyone starts off loving maths. Some are told early on that it’s not “for them.” But here’s the truth: Maths isn’t about being fast. It’s about being curious. So take your time. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Try again. You don’t have to be a genius. You just have to stay open. Because once you feel the beauty of solving something you thought was impossible— that’s when the love begins. From one math lover to another.
